Good stable night.
Surgeon stopped by this morning, cleaned area, swapped gauze around G tube. Check his other dressings, everything looks good. Start feeds through G tube of clear fluid pedialite for several hours then swap to plain breast milk at 1500.
RT is happy to be getting stuff back in his belly.
But he is frustrated that it is so little.
They decide he is stable enough to wean his oxygen flow.
Wean by every hour from 4 liters per minute. Because he was on 1/8 th before surgery.
NICU nurse primary stops by check on him. Good to see our NICU friends! Had a bunch of NICU friends stop by after surgery yesterday too, almost as excited as we were that we were able to extubate right after surgery!
3 liters, 2 liters, 1 liter, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 still doing awesome 1/16th!
Lowest flow he has ever been on!
There’s a chance by the time we are discharged he won’t be on oxygen!
Slowly ramp up his feed volume.
Move to 40cc of milk at 1500.
RT is more grumpy today than last night. We think he is hungrier and thinks we are starving him.
Poor guy.
We get shown how to do his feeds. Now when his one hour feed bolus finishes we are allowed to remove the syringe and flush the extension tubing with water!
Then we get shown how to Change out the gauze and clean around the G tube peg!
Glad we are getting to do more!
Nurse comments his lungs sound so clear one would not guess that he was here because of his lung issues!
Absolutely amazing!
Healing and growing!
Sapository, help him poop again. Going to help him for several days after surgery so he does not have to try so hard we can’t imagine it feeling good bearing down with hernia.
Around his 2100 feeding he calms down, the nurse encourages us to get some rest.
A NICU nurse a primary stops by, she is working in Peds tonight so will check on him several times tonight. Good to see her!
Time to try and rest!
We tell the nurse to call if he us mad and won’t calm down.
Difficult to leave.
Love you RT, have a good night!
