0712 this morning RT has reached two months of age!

Weight is 1690 on the board! Nurse today is one of his primaries!  The nurse last night took RT’s footprints, they are on his poster now!  They are so much bigger!  Yet still very tiny.

His oxygen is at 24%! One month ago, RT was on the oscillator and around 60 or higher percentage oxygen! He has been taking some big steps forward with his tiny feet.

Cares,  just pee, he poops as I’m about to close his diaper nice job buddy! I close it up to let him keep workimg on it for a bit while the respiratory therapist swaps breathing  from mask to cannula. The Occupational therapist arrives to do her part.  She has moves slow and delicately contains RT as she massages his shoulders down by applying pressure near his shoulder blade.  He likes what she is doing and high sats.  Eventally his shoulders are a little lower, can see more neck. Then she moves his arm in a big rotation up above his head and then back down and across his chest.  She lifts his hips and pulls gently to stretch his back. He defiantly likes these stretches she makes him do.

After that he is nice and relaxed, it’s time for me to change his poopy diaper before we tuck him back in to get some rest.

Tucked in and he calms quickly, after we close up his incubateor and make it dark. His heart rate goes up almost to 200, then back down,  I lift just a corner of the blanket covering his incubater to peek at him. He is just in there, just his hands popped out of his swaddle,  fingers wiggling. His eyes are open and just staring at the tube above his head,  he looks calm though.  Silly boy thinks it isnt nap time now that he is 2 months old? I check again a few minutes later,  he looks asleep.

Time for lunch.

1400 time for mom and grandma gets to hang out again (only two people allowed bed side at once). It all goes about like yesterdays went for me. By the end his OG and EDI catheter had slipped out a bit and required retaping, other than that no events!  Good boy!

1700 Grandma comes out and I head in.  Time for his vaccinations! Two nurses give him two shots at the same time one into each thigh. He opens his little mouth wide trying to yell, and letts out a little squeak then a third shot into his left leg. Shots are over for now,  he calms down. We give him some hand hugs and a few milk sponge on a stick. He refuses to taste it at first as if he will not take our bribes, but a few more drops of milk on his lip and he gives in.  A few smiles, he is happy. We love you RT!

Hopefully that was the worst of it and he doesn’t get any fever or bad sue effects from the shots.

Dinner time with grandparents, we share a blackberry pie desert in celebration of RT’s two month birthday!

Back up to NICU shift change,  one of his primary night nurses!  I’m glad he had his primaries on his two month to celebrate with him and be there for some of his calm days!

Cares,  just pee. Respiratory therapist is the one with fast hands again, although she moves closer to the speed RT likes today! The breathing she does with the neopuff doesn’t seem as hard and boppy on his face today either! I’m sure RT appreciates it! I know I do.

I’ve always been taught smooth is fast, often when people try and go fast it doesn’t actually end up faster,  just more stressful and mistakes happen.

Dr. stops by,  he says they are not weaning stuff tonight, he have weaned the last few nights and we would rather he get some rest tonight. We don’t want to stress him out with his vaccinations and weaning.  Smooth is fast.

If we wean and he has problems we wouldn’t know if it was the vaccine, or the wean. Sounds like a good plan to me.

We give RT a few milk sponge on a stick. Happy two months!

Smooth is fast little RT.

Be a sleepy sloth tonight!
