This morning we are told that during suction they have been getting a large amount of fluid from his lungs and some blood, likely from irritation from his breathing tube and re-intubation.

One of the many wonderful nurses at the NICU made a scrap book style poster for RT to hang on the wall above his incubator. It has his name, birth weight, length, time, and date of birth. It is too cute. I could not be any more happy with the amount of love these nurses have for RT.

I arrive back at the NICU at 0700. The weight on his board is now 620 grams. He has lost a little bit of weight which is normal for newborns, and underatandable due to stopping feeds for blood transfusions. We are going to try and get RT off of the ventilator today. The nurse pages the Dr to notify him they are about to try. We wait around for a while. The nurse and respiratory technician get set up to remove the ventilator. We wait for a while. Page the Dr again.

I continue to run each little bit of colostrum we manage to get up to baby throughout the night.
In the morning labs come back good with the exception of white blood cell count. We still don’t know why.

One of the lines going into his belly button cracked this morning while they were trying to adjust how deep it was going into him so he is dehydrated. He has high potassium and sodium. His bilirubin levels are high so they have him under a “grow lamp”.
New line is installed at 1407. His blood transfusion is still running.
I just keep going between mom’s room on the 5th floor and the NICU.
1518 mom is nauseous again.
2117. While doing the transfusion RT blood volume went down. They were not sure where blood loss was occurring so they did an ultrasound on his brain, Continue reading “July 22nd 2016 Afternoon “

RT was born At 0712 his gestational age was 23 6/7. I follow RT and his team up to NICU while moms team continues to stop the bleeding, RT’s Grandma is with her. They work while they walk.
We arrive at NICU he is weighed at 690 grams (1lb 8.3 0z) while it isnt much, it is a good weight for his age. All our fears are welling up inside of me. He needs to fight for us.

We discuss names which we had not done yet, in hopes of having to make a decision till later on, almost like it would have been bad luck to do it any sooner. We decide upon the perfect name for our son as if it was meat to be. Wife starts getting nauseous and shaking. I hold her hand and we focus on breathing 1,2,3 in 3,2,1 out. Things are happening quick.

Wake up to wife saying she is having a sore back, and light bleeding is back. We were told we didn’t need to come back to hospital unless having heavy bleeding and contractions. This time we are in a hotel 2 blocks from hospital incase anything goes sideways.
