March 13 2018 another surgery day, a few pictures

Another early surgery morning. Got up at 445 pre-op at 0600. Fed him at 1145 last night so that he wouldn’t got as long without food. Not so great of a night of sleep for us.Hopefully his hernia repair works this time. The last surgery did nothing, looks just like It did before the last surgery. Surgeon says normally it does not reoccur as quick as it did. Only a 1/10 failure rate…. which does not seem that great to me.

Can bring RT back to surgery anytime between now and 0730. Glad he is the first patient in the operating room this morning, it usually makes for less waiting in the event other surgery’s take extra time.

His lack of trust in nurses and doctors is definitely not improving, he cries when they take vitals always now.

Will update as day progresses.

Fingers crossed this time actually works. It would be nice to go a long time without a surgery looking in the near future.

Met the fellow, nurses, anesthesiologist, and a 2nd anesthesiologist shadowing because it’s a new hospital to him, surgeon stopped by, marked the hernia with a X with marker.

RT liked the anesthesiologist, gave him some big smiles and let him hold him, I think they have one of the best jobs, keep patient comfortable and happy. They usually really seem to like their jobs and have a good attitude.

0744 hand RT off to a nurse since he will freak out if he has to lay down.

0835 talked to surgeon, It went well. Put some heavier duty stitches in. He thinks it will hold this time. Saw RT being wheeled by he was extubated but asleep. Now we have to wait till he wakes up and we get called back to feed him and get discharged.

920 called back to see him, he was awake and crying still in phase one. Getting some blow by oxygen. His spo2 monitor was reading bad and he was upset. He had good color but low on monitors. Mom calmed him down and it took a while. Gave some more Tylenol, fentanyl, and torsol. He calmed down when the nurses left him alone and mom had some time alone with him. Got cheerful, blowing kisses. Moved to phase 2. Had a bottle,

1030 discharged.

Pre-op pictures, October, December, and today. Outgrew the blue gown, now in big boy purple.

Post surgery.
