Enter NICU.
Primary nurse!
25% oxygen. Just bumped up because he was desating.
She had him on 21% for 3 hours.
Morning cares, just pee.
Weaned to 21%.
Lunch.
Head back up.
23% hang out. Cares. Just pee. The respiratory therapist retapes his ET tube the way they tape it up at PICU. It is more like an x over his mouth now. Instead of a tape et tube lock mustache.
I make a reference to it being like a face hugger from the movie Alien. Grandma don’t look up pictures, it’s scary aliens.
It’s really not that bad. But RT does not like more stuff on his face. And it makes his binky time not likely to happen and more chance of an oral aversion if all that can happen to his mouth is unpleasant tape jobs.
This will be an ongoing conversation as we transfer to the PICU. We have a talk to the occupational therapist about it and she talks with the doctor, we will discuss it with the PICU team tomorrow.
Skin to skin time, takes a while for him to settle down. But we wean him to 21%! He high sats to 100 spo2 for a while! A big deal, his lungs are getting better. His respiration rate is pretty low too only 28 while high satting!
Relaxed boy.
He only desats a handful of times. Eventally bumped up to 23%.
Put him back, lower half of ET tube lock has to be retaped already.
Cares.
Dinner.
Back to NICU.
Shift change, same primary as last night!
Cares, just pee.
Good cares!
21% hang out with our nurse and RT. Mom holds RT, takes a bit to settle but he does well. One larger desat to 60’s then his spo2 sensor failed to work but his color remained good. He came back up quick.
Mom holds for almost 3 hours.
Dr comes by, we talk about the move to the PICU and he gives us some better reasons why it should be good for RT. Good discussion about the style tape job they do too.
Put him back then the nurse has something to show us!
She takes us out. To the nurses station. There is a graduation cake! And a gift for us with a card our nurse made and signed by some people with messages for us.
We get a little bit emotional. It has not really felt like a graduation till this point. It has been feeling like it will be more of the same just in a different location.
Our nurses are amazing people!
We go back in do a set of cares just pee, 36.8. then go have some cake and a good talk with the nurse.
Back in.
RT is doing good!
We will miss the people we have met here. Some of them will come visit us in the PICU. Hopefully we will be able to keep in touch with some of them too!
RT had an amazing day, a couple events, mostly self corrected, some that required suctioning and a bump in oxygen.
But the majority of the day his oxygen was between 21% and 24%. Small bumps up higher to recover from events though!
Keep on growing!
Getting big fast!
Later night, slightly earlier morning tomorrow.
