November 4th 2016

Head up to the NICU early before exchanging the rental car and going to base to check email.

RT is on 34% oxygen.

Weight on the board is 3215 grams…. That is 7.08 lbs!!
Woah! He is putting on weight quick!

Nurse today is one that he has frequently, same with his day respiratory therapist.

Nurse apologizes for the high oxygen, she thinks he was on lower the last time she had him. We reassure her he has been around this or higher the last several days.  She is going fine and he is doing good!

Last night nurse had to give him suppository.  44 gram poop!

One large event this morning at shift change.

He looks comfy.

We say our good mornings and tell him we will see him later after we take care of some stuff.

Head out.

Exchange the rental car.  They nicely give my a upgrade!

Go to base and check my email.
Back to hospital, quick lunch then up to NICU.

As I’m washing my hands the respiratory therapist comes out and asks if I’ve been in yet?

Nope not yet.

He goes back in.

I head in.

RT is not in his bed!

He is in a momaroo! One of those electric seat swings! He is deeply asleep. Its a good change for his position!

The respiratory therapist and nurse love seeing our reactions!

He’s been good while we were gone. They sat him up for a bit and let him look around for a bit, he liked it.  They got approval to put him in the mamaroo, and he loved it. Didn’t even have turn it on.

Cares time. Then skin to skin for me.

We have been positioning his head the oposite way from how he normally goes to help his neck muscles.

Skin to skin goes excellently.

They decide to wean his respiration rate from 25 to 22.

Mom goes to meet a friend for coffee and talk.

Going up slightly on his steroid dosage for his weight, down slightly on his morphine dosage and up on his food. 17 cc per hour now! That’s another 24cc per day!

1630 respiratory therapist does CPT while he is on me.

Suctioned, put him back. Temp 36.7, Suctioned,  just pee.

He is wide awake so I show him his book mom got for him. It is designed to help baby eyes like early developement mobiles are supposed to do.

Black and white high contrast images.

He gets WIDE eyes and focuses intently on each page!

He loves it!

After I slowly get through the book I let him rest. He is still quite awake though.

Dinner.

Back to NICU.

Shift change.

Primary nurse tonight.

Cares,  36.6. Just pee he pees as soon as I open his diaper.  Silly kid. I’m learning his trickery and close it before it gets anywhere.

Mom gives him a tummy massage, help get stuff moving.

suctioned.

Belly time,  suctioned.   CPT suctioned

Mom gets some big smiles tonight.

Good stable day.

Only had the ongoing discussion of potential plans a few times today with different people instead of several.

Love you RT!
