Enter NICU,  today we have a primary nurse!

The nurse and respiratory therapist are standing next to the bed.  They just suctioned him and turned him because he was desating.  His spo2 is 80 but coming up.

Oxygen on 42%. She explains he was just turned up. Most of the morning in the 30’s!

Last night’s nurse had a good night,  mostly smaller events.  Oxygen needs mid 20’s to mid 30’s! One more big poop last night too! Small Loss of weight, probably a good thing!  He has been having big weight gains since intubation and sedation. Some is water weight but some of it is good weight. Almost a lb gained since last Thursday!

Hang out.  RT is comfy looking.

Normal routine,  check his equipment,  ensure tubes are in the right spot, nothing disconnected or loose.  Everything looks good.

Last night’s x-ray looks awesome!

Weaned peep down to 7 from 8. First weaned steroid dose this morning. Respiration rate up from 32 to 36.q

They say the doctor decided to discontinue the Hypertonic saline, I ask if it’s been over 48 hours of treatment, the pulmanologis said he wanted atleast 48 hours of treatment with it,  it’s obviously helping. The respiratory therapist goes to talk to the doctor.  The doctor decides to continue with treatment till after she talks to the pulmanologist. Glad I said something.

Turns out he wants a couple days more of the Hypertonic Saline treatment, continue help getting everything out of his lungs.

Cares. Temp 37.2. Diaper, pee. CPT suctioned, turned suctioned.

Lunch, back up to NICU.

RT is wide awake just looking around.  He is becoming more awake even though he is on morphine to keep him sedated,  he is calm. Couple little smiles when we get closer to his face and talk to him.

1400, skin to skin.  My turn,  smooth transfer. He stays nice and calm and relaxed. Eyes are open for a bit looking up at my chin.

Good skin to skin,  his spo2 creps down a few times but comes back up with a minimal bump to oxygen percent.

39% oxygen.

1700, put him back.  Goes well! Was a good skin to skin!

Temp,  diaper.

Dinner.

Back to NICU.

RT is awake again.  Just looking around. 🙂

He was good while we were gone.

Shift change,  same primary as last night!

2000 cares,  36.8 just pee. CPT, turn.

He is a happy boy, mom and I take turns quietly talking to him.  Lots of big smiles.  He probably would have laughed a couple times if he didn’t have an ET tube down his throat. Too cute having him do big wide open mouth smiles!
We say our goodnights.

Sweet dreams big boy!
