October 27th 2016 Eye Exam

Wake up early for the eye exam. When we first had eye exams and woke up this early I was ligh out.

Now it’s still dark.

Enter NICU. Nurse from last night is doing a pass down. To a nurse that had never had him. Plan was either a primary or someone that was familiar with him. Sometimes it just isn’t an option to have someone we have had in the past.

He had a good night.

He is on 28% oxygen!! He is under 30% again! It’s been since the day of intubation. So a week. I think the changes we made are helping!

The respiratory therapist has a new CPT device today! It’s for larger babies.

We do 0800 cares. Respiratory therapist does his thing. Medications, CPT, temp  36.6, Diaper just pee. We rotate him to his belly.

Mom says…. Don’t we have an eye appointment in a little.

Hahaha well we wanted to do more frequent turning!

RT looks comfy, suckling on his ET tube.

Eye doctor arrives a few minutes later, we ask if he can come back in 10 minutes. He goes to look at other babies eyes.

We rotate him to his back again.

Eye exam commences.

His spo2 comes down a little, Half way through his heart rate dips to 89, the respiratory therapist fiddles with some settings.

Eye exam is over.

Eye doctor says his eyes look perfect!!!!

I say whaaaat!? 🙂

Yes his eyes are as perfect as they can be for him. ROP stage zero. Plus disease now stage zero! Laser surgery scarring as to be expected!

Everything looks good enough the next appointment is now at a two week interval!

Rotate RT back to his belly.

26% oxygen!

Good boy!

High fives all around!
