Stormy weather throughout the night I can hear the wind whistling outside.
On the way up to the NICU its raining.
Real rain, coming down sideways, not the weak drizzle the wheezing asthmatic Seattle usually spits.
I’m glad we have rain jackets!
RT is on 26% oxygen. Nurse today is one of his primaries! He had a fairly decent night!
Look over his stuff make sure it’s all in red outlets. It is.
Weaned to a CPAP of 6 from 8, he handled it well as expected. But turns out the pulmanologist wants to go slightly slower so bumped up to CPAP 7.
Sounds good, RT likes slow. The lower the CPAP level the more effort RT has to put out.
Hang out, do cares, temp, diaper. Just pee. He’s on nasal prongs, not seeming to mind them currently.
Binky time with dipping in milk. He gives us some good smiles!
We give the nurse our version of the, passdown because she missed everything that has happened between today and a few days before his eye surgery. Much has happened.
1124 stormy outside, power flickers, loud clunking as generators kick on.
Hospital is now on generator power. Respiratory therapists, and charge nurse do a round and ensure everything is working properly.
Weaned to 23%
Lunch. The power outage, storm and flooding are some of the discussions people are having in the cafeteria.
Back up to NICU.
Still on 23% good boy!
1400 cares, just pee. His hernia is smaller than earlier.Swapped to nasal prongs. Skin to skin time with mom. Goes well! 22% for most of skin time 21% for part too! He settled down quick. RT stayed calm for most of it, only looking for milk occasionally knocking off his mask and needing some help to put it back on him.
1700 put him back. Cares, binky time. Hard to leave while he is awake but we have to get food before the cafeteria closes for the night, not sure where else has lost power or is closed. 21% oxygen.
Back befor shift change, still on 21% oxygen!
Dr. Comes and chats with us, he has visited Sitka.
RT has a small event where he has a brief apnea, his heart rate dips to 97 and spo2 hits 72 but he brings himself back up without help.
Dr. says events like this aren’t particularily concerning. Only if deeper drops and taking more work to get back up.
He says it would be concerning of it was the only thing still keeping us in the hospital. (Obviously RT has many other things he has to work on still)
I tell him to me that event looked like rainout. He agrees it could have been. Not wanting to breathe while having a drop of water run down your throat could cause something that looks like apnea and cause a dip in heart rate.
He decides that RT is now old enough that his heart rate alarm range can be changed.
Now his heart rate can go as low as 80 without alarming!
Shift change. A primary night nurse on again tonight same one as last night!
2000 cares slightly early RT is wiggly and looks hungry. Binky time.
Temp, diaper. Bath time!
I help with his bath, slightly nerve wracking giving him a bath with no sensors reading his heart rate, respiration, or spo2. It all goes smoothly, his color remains good. Babies change colors fast when spo2 drops.
Clean all his rolls in his neck, legs and behind his ears. Wrinse him off.
After bath he gets new sensors. Spo2 is good 96 when we hook him back up!
Clean boy, smells better now!
Fresh bedding, diaper and onsie. Swaddled up. Put on nasal mask. Binky time.
23% oxygen.
You have given us another amazing day! CPAP of 7 and mostly lower than 26% oxygen!
Hoping for an uneventful night!
