Weight on the board 2165 that is 4lb 12oz. Mostly healthy weight.
Nurse today is a nurse we have had quite a few times lately, she might as well be one of his primaries.
On 27% oxygen.
Nurse says his night was better than the previous one. Only about one event every hour, rather than every 25 minutes. So that’s good. Less bradycardia events.
We hang out.
1100 cares Big event as mom takes his temp. Takes some work to get him back up. He really hates having his temperature taken. Just pee in his diaper.
Settled down. I say “his face is turning bright R” Then he poops very loud. “Bright red” Someone across the room laughs.
Well I’m glad his stuff is still working! It’s stressful when he hasn’t stooled in a while. His gut is one thing that he has had going for him so far. And we are askin a lot of him by giving him 30 cal.
He still looks calm so we don’t distub him.
Lunch.
Back to NICU. 27% oxygen still. 1400 cares, some poop. He poops again after I put his clean diaper on. Swapped to nasal prongs. It upsets him, his heart rate hits 230. He is really hating his prongs today.
I feel like he is really not liking having the straps hold everything on today. I bet his puffy cheeks are sore.
The respiraroty therapist is tightening them more than he is used to. She does it to try and keep his leak percent lower. It doesn’t help much but she seems more concerned about his leak than most people.
We are able to calm him down a bit, then I get to do skin to skin he is angry still and gets angrier for a bit. He attempts to crawl up me. He is impressively strong. He alternates kicking his feet out and pushing with his hands. I’m pretty sure this boy will be crawling by the time his due date happens.
Some aspects he has a head start on. Others he will probably struggle with.
He keeps wiggling for a while. He can’t decide which side to put his head on. He ofcource decides face down on my chest. It pushes in the prongs deeper into his nose which I can’t imagine is comfortable.
After a while he settles down thankfully.
The rest of skin to skin is rather uneventful which is nice.
1700 we put him back. Goes smoothly. Cares, 37.0. hardly any pee.
Swap to nasal mask he likes it more. But doesn’t like how tight the straps are on his head.
He desats a few times.
25% oxygen.
Around 1930 we work up the courage to go to dinner.
Back for the end of shift change. It is a nurse he has never had unfortunately.
2000 cares. Temp is 37.1, just pee, he pees again in the fresh diaper. Goofy boy.
Tonights respiraroty therapists comments on how tight his straps are….
I tell him how he likes his cpt more with being neopuffed. He does it that way, It works well and he stays relaxed for most of it.
He gets swapped back to nasal prongs. He doesn’t like it ofcourse. High heart rate. Takes a while to calm him down. After he settles down mom discovers his edi and OG tube are loose and tells them. They will Retape them after the cares on the other babies are done.
RT looks fairy comfy.
For part of the day we made it down to 24% between his events! So that was nice!
Today so far has been an improvement over yesterday. Hopefully the trend continues.
Love you RT, sleep tight mister!
But tomorrow we have another eye exam… we will find out if he requires surgery again.
We pray for improvement If it is the same as it was likely we will have to do surgery again. We are fearfull of more setbacks and worsening in his eyes.
On the way walking out from the hospital I interrupt two individuals in a domestic display of anger. RT’s mom grabs security from inside the hospital. A truck driver calls the police and I stand by the two and ensure no violence happens.
She is yelling at him to leave her alone. Go away.
I ask if she needs help, she doesn’t answer.
I tell the guy he should probably just leave her be. He looks at me then continues talking to her, he seems calm. She is the one that is upset.
I stand by ready for intervention.
She is yelling at him to leave with the baby and the car…
This goes on for a while, crossing the street and going down half a block then back to the hospital.
Hospital security can’t follow off campus and went back inside as the two got further away.
Eventally it seems to calm down slightly and they both get into a car that has the doors open that is parked blocking the hospitals parking exit, a baby is in the back seat…
Hopefully nothing bad happens. I’m worried for the babies safety. Nothing I can do now though.
But police of course don’t arrive till after they drive off, passing eachother on the street.
Stupid drama, unacceptable behavior. Glad no violence occurred.
Well time to head home. Hopefully get a little sleep.
Early morning tomorrow. 0630 wake up so mom will have time to pump before we go up for his eye appointment.
