October 1 1/2 2016

Rough day but he is hanging in there. Breathing tube started him making more thick secretions in his lungs again before extubation. So he’s trying to cough them out now because they can’t suction it out till it’s in his mouth. Can feel his chest rattle and he has wet sounding coughs.

Between 40 and 60% oxygen all day. So not where we were from before surgery. But he’s still progressing.
X-ray a bit ago to check how things are going. Shows his adalectasis.

He is in some pain. Fentanol stopped this morning because it can cause him to not breathe. Just Tylenol now.
When babies don’t like something they often hold up a flat hand and hold it out like a stop sign. It’s a universal sign language to say they don’t like what you’re doing. It’s kind of amazing.

He does it sometimes when he is in pain even if we aren’t touching him.

Got a blood transfusion but it didn’t help his oxygen needs come down as much As we were hoping.

Going to start lasics again to try to get some excess fluid out, raise efficiency of his oxidation and breathing.

Happy he is breathing, extubated,  and on bubble CPAP, just more continuation of the roller coaster.

2000 cares he tolerates better than he did for the rest of the day. He even opens his eyes slightly!  Temp is good, diaper has mostly pee, one small smear of poop.

After cares he is turned down to 30% oxygen. He does ok for a bit but his spo2 starts to creep down. He settles back to 40% oxygen.

After cares he actually accepts his binky! He holds our fingers for the first time since surgery too! Maybe he is slightly more comfortable!

Glad we have had nurses that are familiar with him or his primaries these last few days! Thankful for their hard work enabling RT to continue!

RT gets to see my mom his grandma tomorrow! She has not seen him since he was only a sub 800 gram baby.

He is nearly 5 lbs already!

Keep on fighting!

All night and day.

Someday you’ll get to come out and play.
