He sucks on it really good! Still likes binky time even while intubated! He has to get his mouth extra wide open though, difficult but he manages. Continue reading “October 30th 2016”

Enter NICU, today we have a primary nurse!
The nurse and respiratory therapist are standing next to the bed. They just suctioned him and turned him because he was desating. His spo2 is 80 but coming up.

Quite the day.
“Perfect” eyes!
Weaned respiration rate to 32 from 36.
Weaned morphine slightly.
Weaned steroids slightly.
Weekly parent rounds with his team. I ask if we can get an xray for tomorrow, to see if we are continuing with any trends or if things are improving to see what we are doing is helping. Dr. not convinced that we need it. Continue reading “Afternoon October 27th 2016”
Wake up early for the eye exam. When we first had eye exams and woke up this early I was ligh out.
Now it’s still dark.
Enter NICU. Nurse from last night is doing a pass down. To a nurse that had never had him. Plan was either a primary or someone that was familiar with him. Sometimes it just isn’t an option to have someone we have had in the past.
He had a good night.
He is on 28% oxygen!! He is under 30% again! It’s been since the day of intubation. So a week. I think the changes we made are helping! Continue reading “October 27th 2016 Eye Exam”
RT had another pretty stable night.
One large event though. Heart rate into the 20’s spo2 down to 8. Always scary.
Nurse today is a primary!
X-ray we asked for last night prompted some changes.
Hypertonic Saline started to help brake up the fluids in his lungs.
CPT and turning ordered more frequent.
CPT every 4hr with albuterol. Continue reading “October 26 2016”
The primary we should have had today is sitting at the front desk. She has been reassigned to admit duty today.
RT has a nurse that has never had him. I guess the whole asking for nurses that have had him to keep continuity of care has been pushed to the back burner.
Atleast he has had mostly stable days.
On the way into the NICU ran into a man that asked if we were still in the NICU, they were in room one before we moved to room 4.he asks if he and his family can pray for us. Definately we can use all the help we can get!
Got an email from my work family! So very grateful for them!
Edited slightly for names. Continue reading “October 24th 2016”
