Weight in the board is 2039! Nice weight gain! 29% oxygen.
Eye doctor shows up, gives RT some eye drops and uses his tools to inspect his eyes. RT hates it, heart rate goes down to 69 for the first eye. Eye Dr.stops temporarily and let’s him recover. The rest goes quick.
Dr. Has bad news. grade 3 ROP in one eye grade 2 in the other. This is a huge and bad change from just having premature eyes two weeks ago. He has been on lower oxygen lately too.
Treatment option is a medication injection directly into the eye, or laser surgery.
For surgery he has to be reintubated, there is a chance surgery causes nearsightedness.
The the other option is an injection into his eyes, but a side effect is potentially slower growth for lungs, heart, and brain. All of which he has had issues with.
Laser surgery has been around for 30 Years, injection treatment for 6ish years with unknown unstudied effects down the road.
We read the provided materials and discuss the options with eye dr and neonatologist and come up with the decision for laser surgery. ( they call it the gold standard)
Scheduled surgery just now for after 1400.
ROP is what made Stevie wonder blind. Hopefully we caught it in time.
I will text family after surgery then hopefully post that It all went smoothly.
