Yesterday’s cranial unsound showed normal progression of his brain bleed. The damage has been done already, but we don’t know what it will effect, we are just glad it’s not getting worse. The midline shift is slightly lessened, this is a good thing. The brain is closer to where it should be in the skull now.
Enter NICU, oxygen is at 24% awesome! Nurse on today is one of his primaries!
He had a calm night. A few smaller events
Weight on the board is 1635, a gain of 20 grams ofcourse this is if his weight has been accurate.
Nurse tells us she had the Dr. check out his inguinal hernia, Dr. was able to reduce it, it is just more firm and larger than she is used to for him.
Cares just pee, he does well with everything, hernia looks about the same as yesterday.
Lunch with grandparents, back up to NICU to hang out with grandpa and RT.
Oxygen still 24%!
1345, RT is angry heart rate gets to 200 bpm, wiggly, and desats briefly. He stays wiggly and his spo2 dips a few more times. I give him his binky and he calms down.
We do cares slightly early, he pooped! Good boy! Grandpa helps contain RT for cares and admire his grandon. During the brake between cannula and mask Grandpa gets to see his bare face! I snap a few quick photos. Nurse goes and gets a skin to skin chair. Grandpa gets to hang out while me and RT snuggle. Transition is smooth, RT calms down quick. Grandpa gets to check out RT and talk to him a little. RT only has one small event his spo2 dips to 86 then comes back up. Temp slightly warm an hour into skin time, we remove one blanket.
1715, put RT back transition is smooth, swap back to nasal cannula. Temp, 37.0 excellent. Diaper just pee. Grandpa helps contain again.
He tolerates everything great. During skin to skin his OG and EDI catheter had slipped out a little too far. Needed readjustment twice. They Retape it now.
Heart dips to 70 briefly, spo2 into he low 70’s. They give him a little help with breaths and he comes right back up.
He managed to push his tubes out some again, they Retape it a second time. It holds better this time.
Difficult to get tubes to stick to slobbery baby chins!
Dinner time, I’ll be back in a bit RT.
Back to NICU, same nurse as last night! She has some info about vaccinations, normally done at two months of age. Which is tomorrow! Have some questions for the Dr. about his vaccinations, and his past antibiotics regimen and if that effected his antibodies much.
2000 cares, just pee in the diaper, swap to nasal mask. Wean his NAVA level by .2 now it’s 2.8! Good boy, he is dealing well with the settings changes!
Dr. comes by to answer questions, good answers vaccinations tomorrow! Another big day for RT. She also comments on how well he is doing on NIV NAVA, happy they have been able to wean his NAVA level daily, and his steroids have been being weaned slowly too, and his oxygen needs have not increased. This is impressing the nurses and doctors! Good boy!
She also warns us vaccinations can cause some regression slightly for a few days. Other times the babies act like nothing happened, impossible to predict what each baby will do.
The nurse that left the blanket her mother made stops by and says hello, either she or the other primary will have him tomorrow!
RT is well loved!
Keep on growing little man!
Stablessings!
Tomorrow is another big day and your two Month birthday!
