RT had a good stable night last night. One very small poo. We need him to do more! His blood transfusion went smoothly! His feeds we restarted at 0800, they are fortifying the milk with extra calories now!
Nurse on today is the first time she has had RT, she got a excellent passdown and is familiar with his needs. She seems to be accommodating him excellently. He is at 35% oxygen! She had him down to 32% for about 45 minutes earlier. No changes to vent settings, his blood gas numbers have been stable.
Then we went and exchanged the rental car. It went fairly smooth.
Lunch and then up to NICU, I drink less water in hopes of skin to skin later.
He is still at 35% oxygen! Nurse already has him staged for skin to skin, with his IV pole already in the right spot and the incubator pivoted out a little for extra room!
We do 1400 cares a little bit early, temp is on cooler side but good, turn him up a few percent. Suctioned and rotated, it’s my turn, just pee in his diaper. As I am about to close it up he pees again it all goes into the diaper. Good job buddy! I wait for him to be done then do another. Now you just have to work on pooping!
1345 Skin to skin time! Standing transfer goes smoothly. I get comfy and he has good positioning. They wean him back down to 35%. He is suckling his tube and sticking out his tongue to try and lick me. What a goof!
It feels good to have this contact again, we have missed being able to spend this time together. It goes quick.
His spo2 creeps slowly down so the nurse turns his oxygen up 5%. Then he is stable again.
1700 it is time to put him back and do another set of cares. They suction him out and we carefully move him back into his incubator. His edema has settled into the side that was on me. He kind of looks flattened out. He doesn’t seem to mind. The transition goes smooth, he doesn’t get upset this time. I don’t think he was in quite a deep sleep as last time.
Suctioned out again and turned. It’s time for a diaper change! He has pooped! A big one! That’s my boy!
When cares are done back down to 35% oxygen.
I hang out and text the wife and let her know he pooped, she had to go do laundry after we started skin to skin so that we would have clothes to wear when we go down to marry bridge in Tacoma.
I head back to hotel and have dinner with the wife then we go back up. Shift change has just happened. We say goodnight to the off going nurse. She did good keeping him stable today. She says it’s all the hard work the people before her have done.
Oncoming nurse is his new night primary! She already is quite familiar with him, she was present for a few of his larger events.
2000 Time for cares, suctioned, temp 37.0 diaper, poop again! Even bigger than the last one! Maybe his gut is finally catching up! Keep it up RT!
We get to do milk sponge on a stick, he loves it. We get some of the biggest smiles we have seen from him yet. In between sponges!
He is a happy little boy. It feels so good to see his emotions. After cares I whip out the camera and manage to get a video of him smiling around his vent tube! I’ll post it tonight or tomorrow.
Today was a stablessing day!
Haha auto correct turned stable into stable blessing one word. I’ll keep it.
Sleep tight RT, we will try and give you many more happy moments in your life.
