Enter NICU, a nurse that is becoming more familiar with RT is on today. She has more years of experience as a nurse than I have being alive. An impressive amount of knowledge!
His oxygen is down to 47%! An improvement from what we saw last night. His weight on the board from last nights weight is 1410 grams! He would be 29 weeks gestation today.
Xray last night shows some improvement, upper right lobe looks rough though. Blood gasses have been good.
Nurse got a poo in the morning after a sapository. He needs to work on doing it without help.
We do cares, some pee in diaper. I manage to do it fast enough he doesn’t have a chance to pee before I close up the new one. His mom cleans his eyes, it has been days since he has opened them, too puffy and stuck shut. We will try focusing on getting them clean and open today when ever we get a chance and he is awake. Another blook gas, goes smooth. He doesn’t seem to angry by this one.
Hang out talk, and ask questions. I feel we are getting to know most of the nurses better. It’s nice to have some consistency. Several nurses have been stopping by over the last few days to check on him, they all love him! He is gaining a following.
1230 Slowly after cares they wean him down. 42.6%!
Time for lunch, he has been quite stable through the last night, and this morning and showing a trend towards where we want to go. We decide to get a birth certificate after lunch. It doesn’t take as long as we thought it would. We make it back in time for 1400 cares.
We have a birth certificate and his social security card now!
1400 cares go smoothly, he doesn’t require much additional support. Another change goes smoothly this time it tskes two diapers. Mom gives his eyes another really good cleaning again.
He manages to open them this time! He is so happy, the nurse even says it looks like he smiled when he finally got them open! Yay!
Eventually it is dinner time, we go early so we can be back for shift change and 2000 cares.
1920 back at NICU, his oxygen percent is down to 38.7% this is the lowest we have seen it in a long time! We tiptoe in, and peek at him quietly, as if the slightest disturbance could break the spell.
Please let this trend continue!
Nurse for the night is one of his primary care team! Sounds like we have another volunteer to be a night primary! Our current primary is amazing and, as are most of his nurses. But unfortunately for us she is staring her maternity leave soon. I’m glad we have another volunteer to take him! He is a handful but worth it!
2000 cares go well. Just a itty bitty poo. But it’s something! Without any help. Keep it up buddy!
Dr comes by for night rounds, we touch base ask some questions, and get some clarifications.
His diaphragm looked on the edge of over extension in this mornings xray. They are going to lower his pressure to 19 from 20. Not a big change, but it makes me nervous. They will see if it changes his blood gas later, and an xray in the morning.
He has been stable, hopefully a boring night tonight! We thank the nurse and say good night to RT.
It is always so hard to leave the hospital, but we need to practice self care. To we keep our strength for the long haul, stay healthy and not get sick.
We won’t be able to visit RT if we get sick.
2330 Maybe an early night tonight?
Slow and steady. He must get better!
