Phone call from Dr. in the morning. I don’t panic this call was planned. He was able to be weaned slightly over the night down to high 40’s% oxygen!
Big step in the right direction.

Prayers are helping.

They changed some settings because his co2 was getting too low at his 4am blood gas. HZ is up to 12 from 10, amplitude down to 30 from 39. Mean pressure still at 20.

Blood transfusion complete.

Weight on the board up to 1460 grams. Need to get rid of some of his swelling.

He is 5 weeks old this morning.

We sit by him. I turn off my phone. He continues to high sat.

Over the next few hours he continues to be weaned. 47,46,45,42,40, 39. Lowsat into the 70’s on his spo2 bump back up to 42% oxygen. Still better than mid to high 80’s we had been at!

His heart rate is lower today, close to how it was when he was still in mommy. Maybe he is more comfortable today.

44 gram diaper!! Impresive. No poop though.

Yeast isn’t growing from culture! Blood culture isn’t growing anything yet! Good signs. Tomorrow we’ll know if it’s the same EColi or a different strand. Stopped nitric at 1550.

1300 Feeds started back up! Start him growing again.

After lunch, cares require a bump in his oxygen to 51%

After cares down at 50% from 51. But he hasn’t really been high or desatting. So not being aggressive in weaning.

Another bolus of fentanyl because he’s wiggly. Not because of desatting. No poop. But Another good weight diaper.

1600 CO2 was slightly elevated at blood gas but Not high enough to change settings according to doctor. Another at 10pm. PH was 7.34 so fine.

He seems to be getting out lots of fluids! Looks slightly less puffy in chest. Most of the puffy is still around his neck, face and groin.

Dinner time.

2200 Back to NICU to help contain him for his blood gas. He doesn’t want to bleed. Takes 2 sticks to get enough. First sample fails, either just not enough blood or the machine is being finicky, one more  stick, this one works. His blood gas numbers are good. Co2 back where we want it.

Good talk with the nurse.

Oxygen 53%

We need some stable time for him to recover and grow, time for steroids to kick in and do their thing.

Fight fight fight

Good night little peanut.

Let us pray for no frightening phone calls.
