This morning the off going primary nurse was able to wean him down to 40% o2! His xray didn’t really show much progress although some change.

We have high hopes for the oscillator.  Something has to work, we need a break through.

Throughout the day his needs slowly creep up then back down.  Around lunch the day nurse is able to get him down to the high 30’s! This is what we need!

They take a sample during suction and send it off for analysis.

We are happy to be making progress.

Then back up into the 50s what changed?

We hang out and do 1400 cares. Diaper change takes two diapers, he still likes our routine where I almost close his diaper and then he pees .  He has only peed for me today,  they had a poo last night though. Hopefully he he gets more regular.

We hang out and RTs needs fluctuate.

Time for dinner.
We come back at shift change and his oxygen is turned all the way up to 84%

What happened! ? Is he ok?

Roller coaster shows no sign of slowing.

Pass down complete.

It’s time for cares.  Temperature is 36.9 excellent.  Another wet diaper,  no poop. Mom cleans his eyes a bit.  His head is less puffy than last night.  The lasics appear to be working!

The Nurse is Going to try him on his belly for the first time in several days. It is one of his favorite positions,  he alays seems more comfortable when like this.

They do suction double red is the depth they go to now, some light pink secretions.

Then it’s time to weigh him!

I get to lift him again, one of my favorite parts of the day, this IS kind of the most contact I get to have with him other than hand hugs, finger holds and diaper changes ! We are not allowed to do skin to skin while RT is on the oscillator.

Lift baby,  hold,  replace baby.  1380 on the dot!  RT has now doubled his birth weight from 690 grams! Nicely done!  Some of it is his edema but still some good growth there!

The nurse and respiratory tech carefully position him onto his belly, tuck him into his swaddle,  he looks comfy.  He tries opening his puffy eyes for a little.

What a handsome boy.  Even with his swelling.

He looks comfy. It is no surprise he likes sleeping on his stomach.  His parents both do.

The respiratory tech suctions again.  Gets out some more, maybe the fluids will drain better on his tummy?

picture time.

Good talk with the Dr. on today. Get some questions answered.

Other questions have no answers.  RT would already be better if we had the answers.

The nurse slowly begins to wean his oxygen%.  80, 70 , 66.9, slightly too low back up to 67.3. Then slowly back down to 62.9. He seems pretty stable here!

If he allows it The Nurse Maybe will turn him down slowly 2 or 3% every 45 minutes to an hour.

We can hope to stay lower than that 84% he needed earlier.

Please have a stable night RT! You need another good night of rest.

We need you better!
We will take micro steps, but we will all still get there.
