Echo cardiogram and X-ray this morning. To check status of heart lungs and PICC line. It seems the PICC line may have migrated. His IV was looking like it was bleeding so had to get pulled for risk of infection.
1724 Just finally talked to Dr. There has been 0 change in PDA. We will start the 2nd round of ibuprofen soon. Dr says first round is 60% effective 2nd round adds about 15% so we can hope that the extra 15% works for us this time. Chest X-ray shows some extra fluid and irritation in lungs. So they changed some ventilator settings. PICC line placement is still ok, but migrated. The x-ray tech says one of his tubes that is going into his mouth is at an incorrect depth but visually, to nurses, it looks correct. The vent settings are changed a little more.
Dr says PDA is not being problematic or causing issues keeping up with ventilator so as it is now he would likely not recommend surgery if 2nd round is not effective. RT has some swelling and water weight it looks like but it’s a side effect of the ibuprofen and this means it is targeting the correct valves in his body so there is a chance it could help this time around.
1952 time to install a new IV so he can have another dedicated med line. Nurse searches for a good spot, warns me he is puffy and dehydrated then tries to get the IV installed, first time it will only flush in certain positions so she has to back it out, he bleeds pretty good from the hole. I hold his hand and comfort him. He is doing relatively well. She tries a 2nd time and this time it bleeds a substantial amount before she is able to get the syringe to do the flush on, when she finally does try his vane blows out.
I am frustrated, but hold it in, she is the one that helped someone earlier today when they couldn’t get an IV installed. So she knows what she is doing.
The only good part is… I get to pick him up for the first time… so that she could pull out the bloody linens and put in new ones. It was pretty amazing, I picked up his tiny little body. He still flaps his arms like he is flying.
They will install the IV later tonight.
Considering everything, he put up with it all really well. What a trooper!
