We wake up early to go to NICU for RT’s 3rd week! We enter the NICU, nurse tells us he is so swollen he has a yeast infection in his neck folds and under his arms, his edema is much worse. There is a edema lump on the right side of his crotch. When she touched it during cares over the night he got angry and his heart rate dropped. He has Puffy legs too.
We watch him and the clock ticks over. It is his 3 week birthday! I take a picture. He desats, I adjust his breathing tube. He likes it in a neutral position. Backup to 97. Nurse agrees.
Then it’s time for his blood transfusion. Then Echo cardiogram. Then a blood gas, mom holds his hand this time, he bleeds slow. Finally it is complete. Red blood cell count up to 36 from 26!
Meeting with dr. Cardiogram results. 0 change. Not recommending surgery still.
I have my First skin to skin 1500-1700 I drank too much water at lunch and only made it 2 hours. It was amazing though! I love him so much! Best kid ever!
Another good first to happen on his 3 week birthday!
I tell him some cool things we will get to do in the future while he lays on me. He opens his squinty little eyes and looks up at me occasionally. He loves it when I talk.
1945 I Come in and he is mid de-sat. Nurse takes air out of belly, I reposition vent tube to a more neutral position 99-100 High sat. Time for Cares.
2045 Cares start temp is 37.2, blood pressure cuff is too small! Growing so big RT! Nurse offers it as a keepsake. Good pee amount. Peed again while changing him! Good boy, keep peeing.
While adjusting his tubes and lines and wires the nurse or RT Accidentally pull feed tube out, its gross looking. Nurse installs a bigger diameter one, Retape it to his ltitle chin. They adjust the depths on his feeding tube and edi I tell them earlier edi was at 15.5. They do 16. I say feed tube was at 14 they do 16 Retape. Maybe it’s because he’s growing.
We weigh him, 1100 grams! Too much is swelling and water weight though. We apply powder to neck and armpit to combat the yeast then rotate him to his belly, he de-sats so the RT adjusts the depth on vent tube, it begins auto cycling when respiratory tech walks away. Nurse doesn’t want to mess with him because he is sleeping.
Edi appears to be picking up something that is causing into look like he is breathing on his own at a really quick rate 100-160 times per minute, this happens on and off till 2130, I continue bugging the nurse she eventually calls respiraroty tech. They say that’s no good and begin playing with stuff to try ans stop it from happening. I Ask if interference to edi possible. The nurse says she has never seen it happen. Respiratory tech notices it turns out it’s picking up heart rate no wonder he is bwing forced to breathe so fast. They remove it it’s Yucky, covered in fluids from his stomach. They Install new one he de-sats because he starts bearing down as it slides down his throat. This time they install at 15.5 it reads well.
Long day.
Good night RT, happy 3 week birthday!
