We go in to the NICU in the morning. The first thing I look at is his humidity. Expecting it to be close to the lowest setting, it is a surprise to see that it is off! The nurse comes over and tells us he tolerated being weaned extremly well so they were able to get humidity low enough that the next step was off!
Great job RT!
This is one step closer to getting you skin to skin time with mom! He has been tolerating his feeds well too so they have started “fortifying” the milk. It takes around 20 calories for him to digest the milk so this is one way to up caloric intake without raising fluid volume drastically. Maybe he will grow even better! Now that they are doing that they will stop the emulsified lipids through the PICC line. But continue fluids to keep his electrolyte levels balanced. I ask if we have checked his white blood cell count recently. It Turns out his white blood cell count is still elevated but coming down it is not over 100 like it was.
This means the ampicillin and his antibodies appear to be working! Keep fighting that infection RT!
We are still getting large amounts of fluid from his lungs but no longer any blood!
An echo cardiogram is scheduled for tomorrow to see if his PDA has changed at all, cranial ultrasound scheduled for the 5th.
Little RT is a champ!
