July 22nd 2016 Morning

This morning I got to feel like a father and do fatherly things for my son!  I check his little body temperature then change my son’s diaper for the first time. I wipe him clean and then he pees again  As I am about to close the fresh diaper. Time to start over,  looks like that side of his plumbing works!

His body is so tiny, I feel like I am going to break him every time I touch him. He has the cutest little toes and fingers.  I feel like he has big feet and hands for his size.

Mom has to do hand expression or pump at least 8 times a day. That is once every 3 hours, so that is what we do more information day and night. For now we are just getting tiny drops. It will come in more later. But for now I am going between the wing mom is in and the NICU carrying a few droplets of colostrum at a time on a black disposable spoon once every 3 hours at 11pm 1am, 4am. We are doing what we can RT!

They give him the small amount of colostrum we managed to get him. They take a small sponge on a stick and wipe it with colostrum,  when they put it near his mouth he manages to open his mouth wide enough to get a taste even though his ventilator tube is already stretching his mouth open. It’s amazing how wide he can open his mouth. He yawns does a full body stretch, and falls back to sleep

Labs come back showing red blood cell count is lower now. He will be getting a blood transfusion today. During transfusions and for 6 hours after he is not allowed to feed.

Sleep, pee, grow, eat, repeat little boy. Keep fighting!
